SPASM

Prepare for a drum & bass gigolo and the secrets of a women whisperer. Here you get a lesson in human sexuality and you´ll find the source of our real religion! And don´t bore me with your political correctness, this is entertainment! Sit down and keep silent, now the curtain will rise for SPASM and their taboo tales.

Hi Lukas, how are you and the new album? Has it brought in the expected, perfumed love letters already?

Hi Jörg! I am OK, man, and hopefully, the new album has been spreading to all the goregrind fans around. We have received many perfumed pink letters with pussies’ prints inside and pictures of some naked hot chicks who begged us to appear on another CD layout. Some of them have also sent us their used tampons; we might use these tampons as a bonus to a package for our CD´s. Lucky one who buys it.

With the new cd SPASM seems to be the ultimate ladies whisperers. Do you go hand in hand with modern feminism now?

Oh yeah, man! We formed our band almost 12 years ago and finally, our time has come to pass on our valuably gained (non)sexual experience to ladies who deserve and long for it. Modern feminists are just poor girls who didn´t live through love, emotions, pain and awesome sex, they are really depraved. That´s why we are here, we have to show them how it works.

I see the cd as a kind of set to music encyclopedia to explore female needs. I hope I understand it in the right way?

Yes, definitely. We tried to show our girlies and fans that our band conception can be based on other attributes but gore themes or tawdry pornography. “Taboo Tales” are meant to be a handbook which might prevent boredom in bedrooms and it should reveal your hidden lust and pleasures. It is an encyclopedia of forbidden desires and cravings for major society, but a great manual for all the free sexual minds all around.

Is it your aspiration to fill the knowledge gaps of your fans? Have you some kind of teaching assignment?

I think it is, I finished studies as a teacher few years ago, and so I am persuaded it´s really important to spread awareness of dark corners of sex, for me it´s a combination of my job and hobby. Who can say that? There is nothing worse than an uneducated impotent.

Do you give any guarantee of success?

Of course, our band has been playing for almost 12 years and our teaching and prophecies are still interesting for a lot of people, so that´s the proof of success, that´s our guarantee, or isn´t it?

You have created a basic work to analyze the female mind. But do the girls actually understand it too?

We don´t differ girls from boys and their opinion. We just hope everyone will understand our conception and intentions. We wanted to realize our thoughts and ideas about unconventional sexual deviations; hopefully, it has any sense for all the horny listeners. Girls should understand it for sure, they are more perverted than guys, that´s it.

To be serious, the chick on the cd – poster don’t look happy at all. Maybe she feels misunderstood?

After being brutally beaten and raped by that dude (Radim), you might not be happy as well. She didn´t know that innocent flirting can be so dangerous.

Are you afraid that your creative energies are misguided and that you are just 3 sexual perverse and unsatisfied guys?

We are not afraid at all. The point of our efforts is that we just have a lot of fun with things we are doing. If someone thinks we are perverse, it´s OK, but we definitely deny being unsatisfied guys. We are satisfied with all the private things regarding sexual needs or activities. Just ask our shemale slaves, sorry, boy/girlfriends. I believe that everyone who has sense of humor should understand if we take it seriously.

By the way, what about Radim´s swimsuit, does it still fit him or is it grow with him? Has Radim actually the legal “Borat” legitimation to wear it?

Yes, it has been one year since he received Borat legitimation. Radim and the guy from Borat – Sasha Baron Cohan popularized this kind of swimsuit, so Radim got a free voucher for buying another pair of this awesome bathing dress. As he´s getting fatter and fatter, actual Borat swimsuit is about to break up and it will not fit him until he loses some weight.

I like the album title “Taboo Tales”, is it a dependence on the 70th hardcore serial with incest stories and shit like that?

Even if we are keen on porn movies and hardcore serials, we didn´t know that the title “Taboo Tales” was used for it in the past. I was almost sure that this title haven´t been used, but you are the man who opened my eyes. Anyway, both titles are used in uncommon senses, so I will be really pleased if this serial will help us in promotion and on the other hand, we might attract people to this movie. It is a dirty cooperation.

The cover is cool too! For the blinds and deaf who don’t know SPASM it will be a surprise to hear the music, because there is nothing explicit to find on it. Or do I have a wrong interpretation about it?

You are absolutely right. We thought about different kind of cover that won´t be comparable to another one and will be little bit original in this genre. Reactions and comments convince us that we had decided well. We discussed it within our band and agreed on the fact we don´t want to have something explicit. The box on this cover encourages people´s fantasy and imagination. If you look at it, you should be curious what´s hidden inside – stories about deviant and nonconforming sexual attitudes. That was our aim. It was really hard to invent something special and extraordinary, but we don´t regret putting more effort and ideas into it. I personally like gore or porn covers, it´s a cool thing about the whole gore/porn grind scene, and we just want to go in a different way and try to make something special.

Is your style something like a caricature of a genre picture of our time? Or do you love it just to fuck and torture?

Oh, maybe you are right. From my point of view, this is a caricature of human being, pain and secret perverse behavior which is widespread among people. Our booklet with a chick might not belong to classic porn/gore covers, but for us it´s more important that it shows reality, true state and real face of human society which is more horrifying and frightening, because it really happens. But of course, this chick is hot, we fucked, tortured and took turns on her during our shooting session. She is a sexual goddess, she doesn´t mind doing anything we ask for; she is quite open-minded person in many aspects.
Have you your overpressure of your testosterone level under control?
Almost always, but you know, sometimes something goes wrong and some ladies have already paid for their provocative gestures and clothing.

Is your strict bass sound your key to the female womb? Because the erotic vibrations and stuff.

You should ask our bassist Sam, but as I know him, he would surely agree. He always relies on his low-tuned sound and hopes that vibrations, coming from the bass, will increase women´s sexual desires and lust. This is a guaranteed way to woman´s womb and pussy. All our gigs can prove it, Sam score on 90% gigs. Despite the fact I am a drummer and have fast and sensitive fingers, Sam is the biggest pimp in our band. I envy him his status.

How much Gigolo is in a Czech guy? I mean you’re not that kind of subtly ravisher like the Italians!

That´s a widespread lie. Most of the Czech guys are pure gigolos, we might not be ravisher as Italians, but our persuasive arguments and sexual experience in combination with our penile art are unquestionable. Ask German ladies who are married to Czech guys, you will know. Of course, we are on the top of the list of the best Czech gigolos.

Is porn religion and masturbation the prayer service?

Without doubt, it is. I believe this is most spread religion in the world, it has beaten Christianity. Who doesn´t watch porn, lies and watches thousand times more than the ordinary guy. The same thing applies to masturbation. You should all know that masturbation is the law!!!

You have lost 3 years after the last album. Is it something like an orgasm to come back with a new one finally?

Yes, it is. We are really pleased and happy. It´s cool to play and arrange new songs for gigs, because even if you like your own songs, the more you play it, the more you start to hate it. We have made a brand new playlist with actual songs and I personally love it. I also enjoy playing older songs, but this something new, something special like a new chick in your bed. I really enjoy all the stuff around the new material and attraction to our band, it convinces me that I am doing something well. If it was silence after releasing the stuff, it would be a sign for review our acts and decisions.

What brought you back to Rotten Roll Rex? Is it the metro sexual charisma of the label boss?

One thing is that Marco is a real metro sexual icon. We love his charisma, athletic figure and sexual experience. The other thing is that we had been actually agreed on releasing this CD some time before we started recording it, so our minds could concentrate on important issues of recording, not on things like “ What we will do after recording this shit?”. The important thing is that we can arrange and agree on many things, the cooperation is fucking great – I mean releasing CD´s or printing our merchandise. We are absolutely satisfied with current state and we hope that Marco would say that too.

Last shot is yours, cum on!

CRYPT INFECTION

CRYPT INFECTION was founded in 2009 from the ashes of Encoma and Butchery. Hailing from Ventura, CA, this band's unique flavor of Technical Death Metal has been making waves in the scene. Vocalist Ken May's guttural growls and piercing highs offset Lead Guitarist Joe Billingiere's brilliantly disturbing riff and sweltering solos. With blisteringly fast double bass drums and the occasional gravity blasts from Jeremiah Taylor, the sound is rounded out by their sludgy, precise bassist Mike Payton and Rhythm Guitarist Robert Carter.” That’s what the bio says; let’s see what Ken & Joe think about their music.

Hi Ken, hi Joe, how are you. What’s up in California the land of glorified dreams of a middle – European guy during a rainy day? Is California a good place for a musician with a brutal attitude and murderous ambitions?

Ken: Hi, Jörg! I have to be honest, we are really grateful be able to live in California, so close to LA. There’s so many opportunities, and many great bands that come through here. Of course, we can’t wait to visit Europe someday! I think there’s much more Death Metal fans out there than here. Here, it’s really more underground.

Tell me something about the band? What impels you?

Ken:
We’re always writing out our frustrations. All the hypocrisy and bullshit in society is insane, and we factor that in. We also have a great love of brutal horror flicks and books, such as H.P. Lovecraft and even Cormack McCarthy, and we like to write about that as well.

I think you guys have played in other bands before, has it influenced the music of CRYPT INFECTION?

Ken:
Yes and no. It’s impossible to not have your previous experience be an influence, but CI is really different from anything we’ve done before.

You are not into straightforwardness, you need it considerably complex I think. Or how do you explain your music?

Ken:
Sure. Well, there’s a lot of that ‘slam’ metal out there and Metalcore and stuff that’s just so basic. It’s easy to bang to, but it doesn’t carry any intellectual interest for us. Technical Death, from bands like obviously Suffocation, but also Aeon and such are so intense, that you need some time to process the song and I love that. It’s like sending a coded message that needs to be decrypted.

Your last years Ep “Haruspication” wears a unusual tile. It seems you are not interested into daily trivia. Tell me what’s behind it!

Ken:
That’s right! Haruspication means ‘To divine the future be means of excising and examining the liver of something’.

26 minutes are a long time for just a Ep, you are not Slayer fans, or do you insist on fairness?

Ken:
Haha, well, we’re about 5 tracks in to a hopeful 10 track full length, so we should have a lot more coming!

The guitar solo in “Imprisonment” has surprised me a little, because it is different to the other shit on the Ep. Tell me something about the background!

Joe:
That solo was written as a melody and a rhythm was reverse engineered to harmonize with it. A lot of the other solos started out as a free flow that kept building, I took the parts from the licks I liked and built it over time.

The Ep sound pretty homogenous, it seems your aggressive potential harmonized damn good. Is this your standard? How does that work?

Joe:
it’s not necessarily a standard, but keeping with one thought and developing a whole album is a new thing for me. Bringing continuity to an album marks a point in my musical direction. I wanted to stay with that and develop it so I could move on.

I have found “Haruspication” in some blogs for free download … an legal? I´m a bit irritated about, that can´t be just a giveaway! And what do you think about net - piracy?

Ken:
You know, I hadn’t really looked, but I just searched and Google says there’s 6,000 site with it! I think I’m honored. Of course, it’s be nice to pay back even the recording costs.

What has happen after the release. Has it pushed open some doors?

Ken:
Well, we got signed to Sevared Records and are playing the Las Vegas Death Fest IV, and the West Texas Death Fest. Again, we’d love to come visit Europe, if only we could afford the travel.

When will we get a full length?

Ken:
Well, we’re about half way there, so possibly in about 6 months.

Are you want to create sustainable music or is the moment more important?

Ken:
I’m not quite sure what you mean. We don’t write trendy music or sing about current events, so I’d say since we’re writing about universals, it should be a lasting work.

How important is timing and how long are you needed to get the right one to fulfill your ideas?

Ken:
As long as it takes. Sometimes, we set a song aside and work on something else to come back to it. Since the music is more technical, it can be frustrating at times.

Is it easy to implement the ideas? From the drawing board to the readymade house, virtually!

Joe:
Note for note, it's fairly easy to take melodies from my mind and transfer them to notes on the guitar, but organizing a full song with all these melodies and linking them together, recapitulating, reinforcing ideas, can often end up with ten pounds of shit in a five pound sack.

What is the better way in your band, democracy or dictatorship?

Ken:
Well, it’s about 70/30. Joe, our lead guitarist is the primary driving force, and that works quite well, but everybody has riffs and ideas too.

Classical Metal elements play a roll in your music too, or am I wrong?

Ken:
That’s how Joe and I met, actually, in a Music Theory class while working towards our Music Degrees.

Joe: I try to take music to a natural flow while complicating it with musical math (theory) and then simplifying it and smoothing it out again. So, yes, classic theory plays a big role in our music.

Are you satisfied with the status that you have arrived now or do you want more? Is it hard to find the right place into a overcrowded scene?

Ken:
The scene is really small out here. Even at a bigger show in LA we only get a couple hundred people, nothing like the thousands that show up for European festivals. It’s crazy, but everyone out here is more into metalcore right now.

What do you think is the biggest fault a musician can ever do?

Ken:
To not be true to yourself, and also to give a lackluster live performance. I hate it when a band looks bored on stage.

Joe: Letting the crowd know that you fucked up is the worst thing you can do. Never let them know you fucked up.

Last spot is yours!

UNDEAD CREEP

Sicily is well-known for a bunch of clichés as Mediterranean feeling, & palms, mafia & the Godfather, honor killing & vendetta, Mongibello & Stromboli with fire and ash. Our philosophy of the southern tip of Italy is pathetic. But here are some ruffians who want to change it. They mess with Swedish Death Metal and add her part to globalization of Metal. Let´s see, if it works, welcome UNDEAD CREEP!

Undead hails to Sicily, how are you? Is the creep still hunting for innocent metal heads? I didn´t know that Scandinavia is so close to Italy. Have I to rewrite my atlas?

It's all right dude, we're here in Palermo, Sicily and we do nothing but bring our lazy asses down to the seaside every day. The heat is crazy right now! Anyway no, Sicily's not any close to Sweden, but there was some kinda link between the two when NIHILIST and SCHIZO were young and raging. That was back in the day.

UNDEAD CREEP, the name sounds like an little spooky monster under the cellar steps. What has inspired you to use a name from “tales from the crypt”?

I came up with that spooky monster name. Just wanted to connect two different but equally horrific concepts into one. Something not living (but living!) and something that makes your spine shiver with fear. Of course the name itself has no rational meaning at all, and it's up to you to evoke the "right", dreadful image that lies behind it.

Have you forgotten to close the backdoor with the result that the creep came in with a backpack filled with Swedish folklore? Why do you have a preference for that kind of music?

Actually Swedish death metal is not all we listen to. Definitely, eheh! We're influenced by every old-school way of playing death metal. We just wanted to write and play crushing, merciless music in the vein of the old masters. And even though the Swedish influence is the one you can hear the most in our songs, they wouldn't have been the same if we hadn't listened to massive amounts of bands like AUTOPSY, INCANTATION, NUNSLAUGHTER, CIANIDE, REVENANT, DIVINE EVE and all these American cults. So you see, it's not JUST about ripping off ENTOMBED and DISMEMBER!

UNDEAD CREEP started as a project and then turned it into a real band.

Exactly. We had initially decided to start UNDEAD CREEP as a HAEMOPHAGUS side-project, and the idea was to record only one demo just for fun. We were real high on Ekeroth's 'Swedish Death Metal'! But after all the good feedback we got for the demo we wanted to go on like a real band and write a proper full-length album.

Maybe you get this question often, but how do you manage to make your sound? In fact, in the early times of death metal the bands had mostly cheesy equipment and no high end gear, maybe that’s the real reason for the authentic sound, or am I wrong?

As is now widely known, it takes a cranked-up Boss HM2 distortion pedal to have the classic Swedish chainsaw guitar sound. That's it! It is not "our sound" after all, and it was perfectly achieved more than 20 years ago. I agree with you on the fact that probably the most fascinating features of that old demos and LPs are the low-fi recording, together with the naturalness of the overall playing.

I understand it as an genuflection that you use the best ENTOMBED song for your opening song on your CD. But I hope you want to not exploit “car pool” of classics?

“Immolated For Reincarnation” was made to be the opening headbanger, and it was clearly influenced by songs such as “Left Hand Path” for what concerns the creepy keys section, and “Like and Ever-Flowing Stream”. We didn't think that people would have compared it to these classics right on the spot, haha!

Is the album title “The Ever Burning Torch” a hint that you could not go another musical way? Is it an statement?

We were thinking about something eternal. The feeling and themes to this kind of music we love so much often deal with torments and pain that last forever! You can easily find out more about it if you read the lyrics to “Immolated...” I/we are part of an ever-burning torch of passion for this genre, and the title had to fully express that. A burning torture that never ends!

Tell me something about the songs and artwork of the album, and about your deal with DARK DESCENT!

We wanted to pour as much brutality and power as we could. The songs had to be simple, not far from punk and hardcore at times, and they had to showcase some of the obscure melodies Swedish dodsmetall is commonly worshipped for. There are also many doom/death parts in there (a guy in a review compared us also to November's Doom, and personally I DIG their very very early stuff!), and these are of course important parts of our sound. All artworks and illustrations on the booklet have been hand-drawn by Sandro, the lead singer. The deal with Dark Descent was found after the release of our demo. Dave of UNCONSECRATED introduced us to Matt, the boss of this great label. We'll never grow tired of thanking him for all his incredible support to the Undead Creep cause and for the professionalism of his work. He runs one of today's best labels for sure.

Are you not pissed off if reviews come along with endless name dropping? Does it not deny your outstanding status?

We gotta live Wight that, man! But anyway, It’s not a problem to be compared to the Great Old Names 'cause many of the musical ideas you can hear on our records come straight from their age, and most of all straight from the bloody past! We would be fucking hypocrites if we denied that. I'd like to say something for all the name-droppers out there : UNLEASHED, DISMEMBER, CARNAGE, ENTOMBED and NIHILIST aren't the only Swedish bands we know and adore. We also abuse vinyl’s, tapes and cds from many many Scandinavian bands like UTUMNO, early THERION, CRIPT OF KERBEROS, the Norwegian CADAVER, SEANCE, NECRONY, CARBONIZED, ADRAMELECH, CONVULSE, TOXAEMIA, NIRVANA 2002, INTERMENT, FUNEBRE, XYSMA, downtempo death metal crushers ETERNAL DARKNESS, GROTESQUE, FURBOWL, CREMATORY, ABHORRENCE and the likes...

I mean you get promotion with cross references to the old Swedish school, but is it not too little for you?

It would be a swindle to avoid the fact that we play old-school swedeath and we never wanted to do anything different from this. But again, it's not hard to find non-Scandinavian influence in there. Can't you hear that ASPHYX vibe here and there?... Come on, it's not so hard to see we ALSO love this stuff, hahah!

Tell me about the classical instrumental on the album. Have you thought the listeners needed a meditative break, or do you want to show another side of UNDEAD CREEP?

To include classical guitar interludes or intros was one of our aims from the very start. For the album I tried to come up with something dark, sorrowful and yes, meditative. Many people could say that it's just another Swedish cliché that's been carted away for our personal needs, but I also see something quite Mediterranean, especially in the final arpeggio part of 'On Blackened Mountains'. And it comes as quite a shock when it all ends and another primitive piece kicks in!

Will we get a vinyl version with any limited nick–nacks?

Yes. The cd was released by Dark Descent whereas the vinyl has come out one month ago or something like that for the Italian Iconoclast records did it. Agipunk is distributing the 500 copies, 100 of which are "die-hard" versions: splatter vinyl plus patch.

UNDEAD CREEP came alive during the horrible, torrid summer of 2009 Anno Satanas. Forced to come out of the catacombs where their decomposed bodies used to lie, pushed by the urge to bring back the spirit of old school death metal…” that’s from your promo text, who the hell writes something like that? Ha ha, its fucking entertaining!

Hahaha, it's Giorgio (by the way, he's here to help out with the questions!) the one who writes this crap. They are surely fun and appropriate. The most important thing is NOT trying to be fucking boring and serious. I hate those bands that have tremendously serious and boring bios, this shit is just for big-headed wannabes that in most cases sound nothing like they tell.

Do you really think you have to bring back anything? That assumes that anything was gone before, is it?

The only thing we want to bring back is the unbearable stench of the Buried and Forgotten dead!

How will you protect yourself from disappearing if the retro – wave die down any day?

Personally speaking, I'm not playing this kinda music just for the sake of the retro-wave. It's not even a problem to me: I like this old-school metal revival and I've always been madly into old-school thrash, death and grind revival. Musically speaking, I wouldn't see myself anywhere else. It seems like a commercial: PLAY FOR PASSION, NOT FOR TREND! But I can't think any other way. And most of all, we are talking about an "elite" sub-genre, I don't know why some people only want to be rockstar playing in a death metal band.

How far can a band come nowadays with that dusty and raw old school sound?

We should focus on that particular issue. I mean, if you wanna make money just avoid playing death metal! We already have enough shitty MTV/Metal Hammerish "metal" bands, and this is a nightmare... I'd like to think that one only plays what he/she/it feels deep within, without wondering about what doors can this thing open up, but it seems like this ain't no easy topic.

From Italy no one expects music to hear like yours. Are you alone and isolated on the Italian boot, musically?

Well, there's a band called HORRID that plays Swedish death metal since 1990. Maybe they have never written a true masterpiece but they've stayed true since the beginning, and they're still active. Then we have ERODED (not to be confused with the German ERODED), which are really great. Their only two demos have been reprinted on CD and they're currently preparing a full-length record. PROFANAL must be mentioned as well, they're sweadeath-like and Dark Descent itself has just released their brand new split 7"! Furthermore, there are of course other killer, non-swedeath bands out there in Italy, but the main problem is not the lack of bands. The problem is, indeed, the organization and support a scene should have to be healthy.

What does the godfather think about you, do you need his permission to devastate Sicily?

"We made him an offer he couldn't refuse..." ahahahah

Last inevitable spot is yours!

Thanks for this supercool and funny interview but most of all thanks for the support! And we also have to thank those who'll waste their time reading it, haha! For all those interested in our album, it is available both on CD and LP and you can get it either from us via an email sent here undeadcreep666@gmail.com , or from Dark Descent Records and Iconoclast records. http://www.myspace.com/undeadcreep666
